Pictured here is the reclamation plant built in 2000.The sewage treatment and disposal system for the Copper Cove area was originally constructed in the early 1970's to serve the Copper Cove and Poker Flat (aka Lake Tulloch Shores) subdivisions. The treatment plant consisted of aeration ponds followed by spray disposal on District property. Over the years new subdivisions have been added to the collection system so now there are 30 sewage pump stations and more than 30 miles of pipe in the system. Treatment is now a two step process: the first step is biological treatment, which still takes place in the aeration ponds. The second step is tertiary treatment. This reclamation plant was constructed in 2000 at a cost of $1.3 million. Tertiary treatment takes the stored effluent and treats it to near drinking water quality. This level of quality is suitable for use on the adjacent Saddle Creek golf course thus reducing the need for disposal on District property. The number of connections is now almost 1100 (as of February 2001).
