CCWD Redistricting Announcement
Calaveras County Water District Announces Proposed 2022 Redistricting Map
Every ten years following the U.S. Census, it is required by California for Special Districts to redraw boundaries for the board of directors so that each division is similarly equal in population. This process, called redistricting, is important in ensuring each elected board member represents about the same number of constituents. Redistricting determines what neighborhoods and communities are grouped into divisions to elect their respective board members. Your input is important in creating a redistricting plan that provides fair and effective representation for everyone.
Here is some additional information about redistricting and how you can participate in the process.
What is redistricting?
Redistricting is the process of adjusting the boundaries of election divisions for cities, counties, school boards, and special districts like CCWD. Local governments must redistrict following population shifts based on federal census data once every 10 years. This process protects voters’ rights to fair and equal representation, while still respecting local communities of interest.
Why should I get involved?
You know your community and neighborhood. Your voice is important to help us make informed decisions about where to draw district lines. Keeping communities of interest together in the same district can help achieve more responsive representation.
How can I get involved?
Community members can get involved by 1) learning about CCWD’s redistricting process, 2) submitting formal public comments during our public hearing or via Virtual Teams meeting or in person.
