Monthly Billing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Monthly Billing Begins January, 2027

The Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) is transitioning to monthly billing beginning January, 2027. The following questions and answers are intended to help customers understand what is changing and what to expect.

Why is CCWD transitioning to monthly billing?

CCWD is transitioning to monthly billing to provide customers with a more predictable billing schedule and more frequent account information. Monthly billing is also a common utility billing practice and supports improved customer service.

When does monthly billing begin?

The first monthly bills will be issued January, 2027.

Will I receive a bill every month?

Yes. Beginning January, 2026, customers will receive a bill every month.

Will my water meter still be read every two months?

Yes. Water meters will continue to be read on a bi-monthly schedule.

Will water consumption still be billed every two months?

Yes. Water consumption charges will continue to reflect two months of water usage. While bills will be issued monthly, water usage charges will continue to appear every other month.

What happens to my water base rate?

Your water base rate will be billed monthly under the new format.

Current monthly Water Base Rate - $92.12

What happens to my sewer base rate?

Your sewer base rate will also be billed monthly under the new format.

Current Sewer Monthly Base Rate - $156.34

Why will my bill amount change from month to month?

Bills will generally alternate throughout the year.

One month's bill will typically include:

  • Water base rate
  • Sewer base rate

The following month's bill will typically include:

  • Water base rate
  • Sewer base rate
  • Two months of water consumption charges

As a result, bill amounts may vary from month to month.

Will I pay more under monthly billing?

No. Monthly billing changes when you receive your bill, not how much you pay for service. Customers will continue to pay the same rates approved by the Board of Directors.

Are water rates changing because of monthly billing?

No. The transition to monthly billing does not change District rates.

Do I need to do anything before the transition?

Most customers will not need to take any action.

CCWD recommends ensuring your contact information is current so you can receive important updates regarding the transition.

How will AutoPay be affected?

Additional details regarding automatic payment options and any necessary updates will be communicated before implementation. Customers enrolled in AutoPay will be notified of any actions that may be required.

Will my bill look different?

Yes. Customers may notice changes to the bill layout and billing schedule. Sample bills and additional billing information will be provided before implementation.

Why doesn't CCWD read water meters every month?

CCWD currently reads water meters on a bi-monthly schedule. Maintaining this schedule during the transition allows the District to implement monthly billing while continuing existing meter reading operations.

Will sewer charges still be billed?

Yes. Sewer charges will continue to appear on customer bills. Sewer base rates will move to monthly billing.

Where can I get updates about the transition?

CCWD will provide updates through:
