National Groundwater Awareness Week

March 8-14, 2026

Groundwater Awareness Week is an annual observance established in 1999 to highlight the responsible development, management, and use of groundwater.

While the majority of CCWD customers receive their drinking water from our local river watersheds, including the Stanislaus, Mokelumne, and Calaveras River systems, which serve five of CCWD’s six water systems, groundwater still plays an important role in our service area.

One Calaveras community, Wallace, receives its water directly from groundwater wells located in the Eastern San Joaquin Groundwater Basin. This groundwater supply is an essential part of Wallace’s drinking water system.

As we recognize Groundwater Awareness Week, CCWD remains committed to responsibly managing both surface water and groundwater resources to ensure safe, reliable water for the communities we serve today and for generations to come.
