Some Rancho Calaveras Customers May Experience Water Pressure Changes Following Major CCWD Infrastructure Improvements

SAN ANDREAS, Calif. – Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) has completed the Jenny Lind–Rancho Calaveras A-B Water Transmission Pipeline Project, a significant infrastructure investment designed to improve water system reliability, reduce stress on aging infrastructure, and support the community's future water needs.

As part of the project, CCWD has installed five new Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs) throughout the Rancho Calaveras service area. As these improvements are integrated into daily operations, some customers may notice water pressure that feels different than it has in the past.

These changes are expected and are part of a carefully engineered plan to create a more balanced, reliable, and resilient water distribution system. Hydraulic studies identified areas where excessive pressure, pressure surges, and system bottlenecks placed additional stress on pipelines, valves, and other critical infrastructure. The new transmission pipeline and pressure management improvements were designed to address those challenges.

What Is a Pressure Reducing Valve?

A Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) is a device that automatically regulates and stabilizes water pressure within the distribution system. As water demand changes throughout the day, PRVs continuously adjust to maintain consistent pressure levels and reduce fluctuations.

By controlling excessive pressure, PRVs help protect water mains, valves, fittingss and the water system from unnecessary wear and tear. They also support system reliability and fire protection by helping maintain balanced pressures throughout the distribution system.

As part of the A-B Water Transmission Pipeline Project, CCWD installed new PRVs to create dedicated pressure zones throughout Rancho Calaveras. These pressure zones allow water to be delivered more efficiently across varying elevations while improving system reliability, reducing the likelihood of leaks and pipeline breaks, supporting fire flow performance, and extending the life of critical infrastructure.

While some customers may notice water pressure that feels different than before, these adjustments are intended to provide safer, more consistent, and more reliable water service for the community.

  • Clements Place and surrounding neighborhoods

While some customers may experience pressure levels that differ from what they have historically received, the new system is designed to maintain water pressure within accepted operating standards while improving overall performance and reliability.

About the Project

The Jenny Lind–Rancho Calaveras A-B Water Transmission Pipeline Project included approximately 20,000 feet of new water transmission pipeline, upgraded pressure-management infrastructure, five new pressure-reducing stations, and 218 new service lines. Together, these improvements eliminate hydraulic bottlenecks, reduce excessive system pressures, improve water delivery, strengthen fire flow performance, and enhance the long-term reliability of the Jenny Lind and Rancho Calaveras water systems.
