John "Jack" Garamendi

John “Jack” Garamendi, Jr. is a fifth generation Calaveras County resident, Rancher and Business leader first elected to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors to represent District 2 in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. Jack was twice elected Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.
As County Supervisor, Jack served as a member of the Rural Counties Representatives of California (RCRC) representing 40 California Counties, Chair-Golden State Connect Authority (GSCA), Golden State Finance Authority (GSFA), National Home Buyers Fund, Upper Mokelumne River Authority, Vice Chair-Calaveras Amador Water Authority, and numerous other County support programs.
Prior to being elected County Supervisor, Jack spent nearly two decades working for the University of California where he served as the Founding Vice Chancellor of University Relations at UC Merced. He was part of the leadership team that opened the first new University of California campus in 40 years and the first University of California in the rural California Central Valley. Jack currently manages his family cattle operations and has founded several successful companies in the fields of Agricultural, Energy and Communications.
An Eagle Scout, former U.S. Army Reserve Officer and Peace Corps Volunteer, Jack has served on numerous boards and community organizations including the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce, Calaveras County Fish and Game Commission, Calaveras/ Delta College Advisory Group, California State Fair Agriculture Advisory Committee, North Delta Conservancy, Yolo Basin Foundation, Fulbright Association, Boys and Girls Club, Great Valley Center, American Leadership Forum and the UC Merced Board of Trustees.
Jack received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MBA from California State University, Hayward. He was also a Fulbright Scholar in Montevideo, Uruguay. Married for 30 years to his wife Colleen, Jack is the proud father of two adult sons and makes his home on his family cattle ranch in Paloma, California.
